About the Masterclass
My mentor Andrea Olsen once said: “What’s worth trying is to keep the creative flow alive”.
As the world gets more complex to navigate, I feel deeply committed to creating a welcoming environment and to supporting each other in staying present and responsive by cultivating flow and creativity through moving and dancing. Through Experiential Anatomy, Improvisation and Instant Composition, the intention is to dive deep in sensation; orient and locate oneself to become more available to connect with others and the environment. Movement will be the main tool for learning; improvising alone and with others will facilitate the on-going dialogue between sensation and form; open space for dancing will support integrating sensorial work with the potential for poetry to emerge and be shared. The classes are open to anyone interested in sensing and moving; to disabled and non-disabled movers interested in exploring humanness, connection and creativity through dancing.
Susanna is an Italian dance artist and somatic educator currently based in Lausanne. As a performer, teacher, mentor, rehearsal director, project and tour manager, choreographic and artistic advisor and maker Susanna has worked and toured internationally for the past 25 years. Her teaching methodology and artistic work is based on somatic work, improvisation and on supporting creativity through moving. Inclusivity, dialogue, curiosity, collaboration, freedom of expression and imagination are the core forces of Recchia’s work as an artist and facilitator.(Foto: Colei che attende film co-created by Scotty Hardwig and Susanna Recchia).

About the Masterclass
Through my career, particularly in conversations with people from the mainstream dance world, I’ve often encountered the challenge of creating dance that is both complex and demanding for performers while remaining inclusive. This class reflects my ongoing wish to develop a method that embodies both. This inclusive class centers on real-time movement translation, inviting participants to explore individuality within shared structures. The session begins with a guided improvisation, serving as both a warm-up and a self-check-in with the body, focusing on stretching and core activation. It evolves into a dance phrase prioritizing personal expression: movements are guided by directions, sensations, scales, and imagery rather than fixed shapes or body-part-specific actions. While the choreography’s structure remains visible—manifesting as unique or individual unisons—the phrase’s form adapts to each dancer, celebrating diversity and connection in movement.
Alessandro Schiattarella is a Neapolitan performer, choreographer, and artistic co-director of UNFRAME (IntagrART), a network for inclusive performing arts. Based in Basel, he creates multidisciplinary works exploring anti-ableism through autobiographical, social, and political themes. A former soloist with renowned companies including Béjart Ballet Lausanne, Ballett Basel, and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, his pieces have been showcased at international festivals like Swiss Dance Days and the 18th Venice Biennale amongs others. Embracing fragility and transformation, Alessandro collaborates with artists to dismantle ableism and guide audiences toward new perspectives.
